John Edgar Cummings married Kathryn L. McGaughy, daughter of Joseph M. McGaughy and Letitia Booker. He was born on 11 June 1875 at Newburgh, New Brunswick, Canada.¹ He was the son of Aratus Cummings and Jane Taylor. He died on 1 May 1960 at Houlton, Aroostook, Maine, at age 84.¹ He was buried on 3 May 1960 at Houlton.¹
     John Edgar Cummings John immigrated to the U.S. in 1894 according to the 1920 Census and 1898
for the 1900 Census.
As told to William C. Miller, "John walked from Woodstock N.B. to Houlton
in stocking feet so he would have shoes to wear when he arrived there".
He came to Houlton in 1902, met Kathryn, married and bought the land and house
at 56 Pearce Ave. for $1000 and lived there all his life. He worked at Cates Garage
as a mechanic. John never became a US citizen.
Living in Houlton in 1900. Both parents were born in Ireland. He was a
farm laborer in 1900. He died at Aroostook Hospital of cancer of the esophagus
and was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery.
