Jacob Satchel Cilley was born on 21 July 1823 at Lima, Livingston, New York.1 He was the son of Satchel Cilley and Wealthy Cummings.1 He married Mary Ann Seaman on 14 March 1844 at New York.1,2 He died on 5 February 1913 at Petersburg, Monroe, Michigan, at age 89.2

Jacob and Mary Ann went to MI in Nov. 1844 shortly after their marriage. They came to Mich. by the steamship Lady Washington, which floundered off Silver Creek, NY where they lost all of their belongings. He settled, it is believed, north of Petersburg where ‘he build a log cabin and homesteaded 80 acres. He hunted with the Indians. They would come into his home and take whatever they liked.’ He later owned a farm south of Petersburg, which he sold.2
