Zephaniah Butler married Abagail Cilley, daughter of Captain Joseph Cilley and Alice 'Else' Rawlins.1 He was born in 1728 at Windham, Windham, Connecticut.3 He was the son of Malachi Butler and Jemima Dagget.2 He died in 1800 at Nottingham, Rockingham, New Hampshire.3
Came to Nottingham about 1756, where he taught school for many years, and was known as "the school-master," a man of great natural intellect and very extended information. He married Abigail Cilley, daughter of Gen. Jospeph Cilley, and died at Nottingham.2
Zephaniah Butler, who had served in the early wars from Connecticut, signed the Association Test in New Hampshire, 1776. He served under Stark at the battle of Bunker Hill and with him were his sons, Benjamin and Enoch. Zephaniah was grandfather of Gen. Benjamin F. Butler.
