     Joseph Saez Cilley was born on 24 November 1868 at Mercedes, Uruguay.1 He was born on 24 November 1868 or 24 November 1869 at Buenos Aires, Argentina.2 He was the son of Commander Greenleaf Cilley and Malvina Vernet.1 He married Maria Vieyra.2
     Joseph Saez Cilley was also known as Jose Sáez Cilley.2
     He graduated as an Agricultural Engineer from the college of the Provincial Government in Buenos Aires at Santa Catalina. He was employed in the ministry of Public Works as Inspector of Colonies. In Jun. 1893 the Gov. of Buenos Aires sent him to the United States with six months leave to study and report upon the cultural colleges and systems and the agricultural department of the Exhibition of Chicago. He returned to La Plata in Jan. 1894.2
