     Abel Alexander Shuford was born on 13 November 1841 at Catawba Co., North Carolina.1 He was the son of Jacob Hoyle Shuford and Catherine Baker.1 He married Alda Virginia Campbell on 18 December 1873.1 He died on 3 May 1912 at Hickory, Catawba, North Carolina, at age 70.1
     (One of the founders of Hickory, joined Catawba Guards in 1861, Company F, 13th Regiment of NC Volunteers (23rd state troops), wounded at Gettysburg, captured and imprisoned for 21 months. Elected 2nd lieutenant but never commissioned due to capture. Founder of Shuford Mills, Shuford National Bank, and started many other enterprises.).1 Reference: Hickory, NC.1
